Nate Silver's most recent post comments on
...the arbitrary and largely ineffectual nature of the fact-checking process employed by the mainstream media.

...the blogosphere serves as the fact-checkers that the mainstream media is too negligent to employ.

He asserts that emerging new media institutions do a much better job of vetting stories than the established MSM.

What a fascinating article! During the campaign, I heard people say the 538 was biased and was manufacturing numbers to try and swing projections in Obama's favor.

Falsifying data is a serious charge, whether against a news organization or a statistician. I can see why 538 would lash out at critics, especially when no one is guarding the guards.
